Neuroner Duology

Thela Brown

Every orphan in the back of their mind hopes that their parents will come for them, even though every orphan knows that is only a fantasy.

Cole Carter

“Cole, nice to see you,” I state stiffly to the even stiffer air. “It is nice. This must be my luckiest day. I found you, and if you fight me, well, you see all the guards with guns in their hands.”

Zac Taylor

“All I have set out to do in my life is to protect you from any danger. I would take a punch, a cut, or a bullet for you.”

Little Girl with Scars

“Thela Brown dangerous? No, not even in the slightest. Take it from someone who lives in your mind, seeing, holding on to all the bad things, all the bad thoughts you ever have.”

Tess

“You are more valuable than me. In fact, I should have been killed, but not you.”

Mrs Abby

“Seeing you and Zac, even now as adults, just reminds me why I started doing this in the first place, because every kid has a purpose, a life to live.”

Lily Brown

Lily turns to stare out the window again, finishing up her wine, but she doesn’t let go of the glass. “I still want my wants.” Her voice only a whisper.

Carrie Sky

“So tell me,” continues Carrie, “people who are as good as you usually transfer to the Caretender for Medical. Why do you stick around here?” she asks, raising her hands to emphasize the Shelter.

Lucas

His eyes linger on the wound where the bullet skimmed my leg, and how my hand is drenched in my own blood. Before I can say anything more, he turns, grabs the gun, and runs away.

Adam Taylor

“Don’t worry. I am in a hospital, and I have no clue what actual time it is or the day,” he says with a smile. . . “Right.” It bothers me how cheery you are. No, it irritates me.

Ash

“Yeah, but now I have this cool scar that someday I can impress the ladies with,” Ash says, puffing out his chest. . .”

Ruby

“My mother’s say you are a bad person because you are a Dangerous Neuroner, but I know you’re actually a great person.”
